The rooftop terraces look out over the magnificent Mesopotamian plains, and owner Günal Ensari and his staff made me feel at home. This is a magical place to enjoy life. I only stayed two nights and wish it had been longer. Even after two flights to get here, 12+2 hours for me, I'd gladly return. This is a lovingly restored 16th century family home, beautiful and extraordinary, with vintage elegance and comfortable rooms named after family members. I stayed in Room 204 (Ismail Bey & Mutia Hanim), and the Wi-Fi was decent at 45 mbps. Mardin is a golden, ancient sandstone city, a melting pot of cultures with welcoming locals. Exploring Mardin and Dara felt like time travel: labyrinthine alleys with a faint donkey smell, hidden courtyards, bazaars, mosques, churches, madrasas, and Mardin castle built into a cliff. The homemade meals, based on the owner's grandmother's recipes, were delicious, hearty, and filling. US$523 per night. Rating: 5/5.

The people made our stay feel especially warm. This family-owned place has a welcoming, intimate feel, and the owner greeted us personally with stories about restoring the konak. The staff were attentive and went above and beyond. It's not flashy or sprawling, but it felt heartfelt and profoundly welcoming. In a lifetime of travel, few nights have seemed this timeless. Mardius didn't just host us, it drew us into its story. I can't wait to return. We stayed for a long weekend, escaping the autumn bustle, and it felt magical. The rooms were a highlight, each a cozy blend of tradition and comfort. At the restaurant, the Mesopotamian dishes were flavorful and photogenic, and breakfast came with platters piled with delicious food. Set in Mardin's historic old town, Mardius Tarihi Konak occupies a meticulously restored 19th-century stone mansion with roots going back even further to the 16th century. It combines authentic Ottoman architecture with subtle modern luxuries, somewhere between a museum and a sanctuary. Through the arched wooden doors, sunlight falls through old grapevines into a quiet courtyard with honey-colored basalt walls, bringing centuries of stories to mind, from silk traders and Sufi poets to the families who lived here. The location is hard to beat. Mardin Ulu Camii and the Grand Turkish Bath are only steps away, while the konak still feels like a calm retreat after a day out. The UNESCO-worthy alleys are easy to explore, and Zinciriye Medresesi and the busy bazaar are a short walk away. After sunset, the terrace has panoramic views of the Mesopotamian plain in golden light. If you're visiting for history, culture, or simply a strong sense of place, I'd recommend booking here without hesitation. 5/5 stars.

A one-of-a-kind, magical hotel with incredible character, charm, and history. The architecture is splendid, and the place is clean and well kept, in an incredible spot in Mardin. Breakfast was incredible, and the staff were super helpful. Dilber helped us around the clock, thank you! Highly recommend.

The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, with modern conveniences kept in place while the former family home was renovated down to the smallest detail. This family-run boutique hotel gave every guest care from the moment we arrived. We stayed at Mardius for a couple of days, and it was easily one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Breakfast is included and fit for kings. Dinner is another must: the family recipes are recreated as a truly decadent spread. I wish we could have stayed longer, but I know I'll be back. Turkish hospitality at its best!
