Old City Kasım Tuğmaner Konağı

The room itself was nice, the view was great, and the price was good. Finding the hotel was difficult because there’s no sign on the door. We stayed in the large room with a kitchen, but it had no useful equipment: the microwave didn’t work, and there were no pans or glasses. When we asked for a glass, the staff just stared and said no. We couldn’t get much help from the staff. I asked where I could get clothes washed, and one person shrugged, then went back to smoking and watching YouTube. Maybe things would be different if you speak Turkish.

Berkay was a huge help throughout our stay. It can be tricky to find the hotel the first time, so get the location ahead of time, since Google Maps shows the wrong spot. The hotel is beautiful and authentic, and it’s been newly renovated. We had a comfortable bed, hot water in the shower, amazing views, and a delicious breakfast. Teşekkürler 🙏🏻

The staff were the best people we met during our whole trip in Mardin, and once we were settled in another hotel everything went smoothly. This place is an extension of Old city mardin on the main 1 cadde. The staff are amazing and helpful around the clock, but I found the owners a bit dodgy. A few hours before check-in, they called to say they had no room and asked us to cancel. I refused and asked them to cancel it themselves so I could leave a review on Otelz.com. Then they emailed saying my card wasn’t working. After a few hours of back and forth, they found us a room at another hotel.

The terrace had a beautiful view, the location was good, and our ground-floor premium room was nice and reasonably priced. The air conditioning worked, though it was weak, and having separate toilet and bathroom is unusual in Mardin. Getting there was another matter. Google Maps has the wrong location, you can’t reach it by car, and there are quite a few steps down from the main street. Call ahead. There’s a nearby hotel called Kasım Tuğmaner, and its signs may send you to the wrong place. When we called, they didn’t listen and hung up, saying they’d send the location. They claim there’s parking, but there isn’t. We had to leave the car on a side street, and calling that parking is unacceptable. The toilet flush was broken. A note on it said we had to open it and refill it each time, rather than having it repaired promptly. The room was dusty too, probably because there weren’t enough staff to clean it regularly. Breakfast was poor, with the cheapest cheese and olives from the market. From what we saw, the only person at reception was Faraç, a very intelligent and hardworking young man, around 12 years old, who tried to help as much as he could. We saw people making him carry things, and it was a shame to see.
