Diplomat Hotel

The restaurant’s smell was mouthwatering when we arrived, and the meals we ate there lived up to it. The staff paid close attention and made us feel at home instead of like visitors passing through. This cozy, quaint hotel was exactly what I hoped to find in an authentic Turkish Mediterranean town, the kind of place you read about in novels. I hope to return and try the suites across the street. My body has gotten sensitive to where I sleep lately, so next time I plan to bring my own soft pillow. Already missing Turunç.

The hotel restaurant serves great food, with what I’d call a modern Turkish style. Across the road, the new Diplomat Suites block has self-catering apartments that look beautiful and have good facilities. At the time of this review, May '25, they still needed more work and attention to detail. The main entrance stairs are slippery and have no handrails, and the bakery/cafe wasn’t open yet. Construction was causing noise, which was expected to be over by the end of May '25. Buyer beware!

Breakfast was a good buffet, with high-quality food and filtered coffee. The beach is decent, the water clear, though the entry is rocky and you need to bring your own towels. Rooms were fairly clean, and sound isolation wasn't bad despite a karaoke and live music bar across the street. The noise stops at 12. The tap water was mildly salty, but it seems to be that way throughout Turunç. They only provide shampoo, so shower gel and perhaps slippers would be useful. Hotel beach towels would be nice too. Other than those small annoyances, I'd recommend the place and would come back.

We didn't stay here, though we wish we had. We had lunch and liked the food enough to come back for dinner the next day. It was our favorite place to eat in Turunc by far. The waterfront setting is great for people watching, with friendly staff and good service. It was a bit off season, so it was quiet and relaxed.
