Golden Star Otel

Cockroaches were all over the room, in the shower and bedroom. The sheets had stains, and the fridge and AC were broken. When we asked to have the room cleaned, we were told no. The staff were disrespectful. I know this hotel wasn’t meant to be luxurious, but what we went through was hell. It was so poor that I’d strongly advise avoiding it for your sanity. Do not stay.

We booked a double room, but were given one with two single beds. The TV was hard to watch because of the aerial, and it only had Turkish channels anyway. Wi-Fi worked only in the lobby, not the room. The manager said this was to encourage people to buy more there. He also took naps in the lobby whenever he liked, which seemed unprofessional. Staff weren’t welcoming, there was rarely music and no entertainment, and a 14-year-old boy seemed to be serving beer and working day and night. Breakfast was the same every morning, with very little choice. I wish I hadn’t paid for half board, because we ended up eating outside. We also had to pay for water with dinner, which didn’t seem right for half board. On our last night, the manager tried to charge us for dinner even though he knew we were half board, and we had to remind him. People I spoke to who were staying at the hotel weren’t happy either and said they wouldn’t return. If you want to enjoy your holiday, stay well away.

We stayed for four weeks across June and July. It’s a great base for exploring Marmaris, with supermarkets and restaurants two minutes away, and the shopping street and beach about 5-8 minutes away. Rooms were tidy and clean. Lots of guests stayed just one or two nights, so the rooms were cleaned and fresh towels provided on request. The Turkish breakfast was included, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The fridge wasn’t great, and the air conditioning and safe deposit box cost extra. Thanks to Mehmet and all the staff. We had some good days out, but the hotel was terrible. Staff and food were shocking. We were all-inclusive and arrived late, but no one offered tea, coffee or even water, and no one showed us to our room. Breakfast the first morning was awful. I know not everywhere serves a full English, but even some toast would’ve been fine. Someone told us toast cost extra, and the only cereal was stale. The room fridge didn’t work, and there were lots of hidden charges for things that should’ve been included. We spent money on food almost every day because the hotel food wasn’t good. Drinks stopped at 10:30 pm, and after that you had to pay. The last day was the worst. We asked reception to call our transfer company to confirm the pickup time. They called our room and told me it was 19:15 on 18.6.2016. We got ready and went out to eat and kill some time before pickup. When we returned, another guest said the transfer had already come and gone. At reception they wouldn’t help or take responsibility for the mistake. The manager stood up and got in my face. We had to take a taxi to the airport so we wouldn’t miss our flight. I wouldn’t go back in a million years.
