Grand Mardin-i Hotel

The room wasn't very comfortable, and the noise never let up. We could hear everything, from someone whistling to a woman clattering up and down the stairs in heels. There was no hot water; we were told it was a problem throughout the town. The surroundings didn't feel comfortable either, so the stay was disappointing.

The team were friendly, professional, and always willing to help. Grand Mardini Hotel was clean, comfortable, and well looked after. I had a really pleasant stay and would gladly recommend it.

I was traveling on a low budget and didn't spend much at this hotel, but the people treated me so well. They let me leave my bag for a few hours at no charge, called a taxi to the bus station, which was quite far away, and the fare wasn't expensive. They even called the station to reserve my ticket for me. I only stayed one night, but had a great time. The hotel was inexpensive and the standard was high for the money. My room was large and lovely, everything was clean, and breakfast was nice, especially for the price. The staff were so friendly. It's amazing how kind people can be to each other.

The bed was like cardboard. The mattress and box spring were so worn that I sank into a V, with my backside practically touching the floor, and the overstuffed pillows were really uncomfortable. In the bathroom, the toilet couldn't be flushed because it had no buttons, so maintenance had to come. The lighting was poor, the sink wasn't firmly attached to the wall, and the shower drained badly. Some soap with a brand name was actually from the hotel down the street. The door didn't feel secure and seemed light enough to force open. There was a two-inch gap underneath, so you heard everything and could see hallway light. We booked a decent-sized room, but there was visible mold behind the door. Sound insulation was horrible: we were woken by someone arguing next door, and an underground club across the street played loud, annoying music at night. The hotel is on a road with about eight similar hotels, which felt like a red flag. For anyone visiting Mersin, the area is a terrible base. It's about a 20-minute walk to the sea and more than 20 minutes to anything remotely interesting. Getting closer to the city center is worth the higher price. Don't be fooled by the photos, and stay away from this hotel and the surrounding ones.
