Cappanar Cave Hotel

The owners were kind about every question and took care of everything, which made traveling alone feel especially comfortable. I loved the peaceful decor and the delicious breakfast in the mornings. It had such a personal, family-run feel, almost too good to be true. I couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming place that felt like home.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable, but the thin walls made it hard to sleep. We could hear TVs and showers at night, and in the morning people on the terrace above the bedrooms. The rooms are packed close together, too. The terrace is where breakfast is served, from 9-11, and the blonde woman there looked annoyed when we arrived. She eventually greeted us after I said hello and smiled, though I felt ignored at first. The food was fine, mostly fried and carb-heavy, and the price seemed reasonable for what you get. Getting around was another drawback. The hotel is far from everything, and taxi costs add up quickly. I also don’t think it’s a true cave hotel. Maybe one or two rooms qualify, I’m not sure, but the advertising felt deceptive to me for the rest. Before we arrived, Mehmet, one of the owners I think, contacted us in English to ask when we’d get there and whether we needed anything. At check-in, an older man who didn’t speak English seemed confused about our reservation and kept using another name while I showed my passport and booking. He was a bit harsh, and not a friendly first contact. I understand the language barrier, but I don’t speak Turkish, and continuing to shout at me in Turkish while I kept saying so wasn’t helpful.

The hotel is beautiful, and every corner seems worth a photo. Breakfast was generous and worth trying. It’s a little outside the city, but Mehmet will drive you there for free. We had a good stay, and I’d recommend it.

The owners and staff were polite and really attentive. It’s an elegant family hotel, restored in keeping with the region, with clean rooms and an excellent breakfast. Definitely recommend.
