Marcan Resort Hotel

The area was beautiful, with lots to do and great places for kebabs and clams. The resort pools were clear and tidy, and the rooms were clean, with housekeeping twice a day. If you declined cleaning, you could still get free water. The cleaners were polite and efficient. The staff made the stay especially nice. MehMet kept us entertained and ran tournament games with prizes like sweets, accessories, and shirts. Erin at the bar was really friendly, and the drinks and chats were good. The dining room and bar service were excellent, and Mehmet, the animator, was especially helpful and always keen to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. He really puts his heart into the job. I spent 10 days here and was very happy with the stay. The hotel is clean and has what you need, and the cleaning ladies were friendly, smiling, and thorough. Thanks for a wonderful time. The food was fresh, delicious, and had plenty of choice. We were full board and I don't think I've ever eaten so much. Our room was roomy, well equipped, and had a great balcony. It was cleaned every day, with fresh linen every other day. The pool area was excellent, and we always found sunbeds and parasols. There's another pool with slides, plus a great spa. We stayed at the Marcan for four days and had a wonderful time. Having read some negative reviews, I can only think those people were lying, working for a rival hotel, or staying somewhere else entirely. Afternoon and evening entertainment isn't usually our thing, but it was professional and never intrusive. The hotel quieted down by 11.30. Reception and the rest of the staff were very helpful. We'd recommend this amazing hotel.

The pool is a good size, with lots of sunbeds, so there was no need to rush out early to claim one. The air conditioning worked very well, and the room fridge was fine. Cleaners came daily if you hung the right note on the door. Breakfast omelettes and fried eggs were excellent, freshly cooked by friendly chefs. The garden was pleasant, with people cleaning outside most days, and the weather was glorious. Location was good too. The shower needed a deep clean, but water pressure was strong and hot water was available in the afternoon and evening. A lot was wrong with the room. When we arrived at 5am, it was dirty, especially the shower room, and the toilet seat was broken, though usable. Reception heard our concerns, and cleaners came the next morning. There's no sink plug, apparently hotel policy, and only warm water in the morning, so shaving was awkward. There was no kettle. We'd booked a double, but got two singles pushed together, and the double bedding didn't fit. The internet was good for five days, then failed for the last six, leaving me to pay roaming charges. There was little information about the fault or when it might be fixed, and people were annoyed. My partner had sickness and diarrhoea one night, after two days at the hotel, so we think it may have been the food. We knew of others who got sick too, and some gave us their medication. When we needed fresh linen in the middle of the night, the night porter brought it and asked for money. The shower plinth is easy to stub your toe on while heading to the sink, especially in the dark after using the toilet. There are the usual warnings about valuables, and the safe costs extra. Drinks are served only at the pool bar, or in the restaurant during meals, and outside the restaurant everything comes in plastic cups. A proper bar with comfortable seats and real glasses is badly needed. All-inclusive drinks run from 10am to 11pm and are only local brands, which aren't very good. Food is average apart from breakfast. There are nice salads and a reasonable but repetitive choice of desserts. Leftover vegetables turn up in salads at the next meal. Meat is generally chicken or turkey. Most staff weren't especially friendly. There were some exceptions, including the young guy at the pool bar, the entertainment man, the omelette chefs, and the man running the snack bar area. Reception can seem helpful and friendly, but as soon as you complain, they quickly turn against you.
