The street outside, a side street, was noisy and not very pleasant to walk along. Check-in took a while too. There were language difficulties, and the gentleman at reception struggled to understand that I had a booking.com reservation. He said I could pay in the morning, possibly because a different colleague would be on duty then. Checking out was quicker, but their card terminal unusually rejected a card I’d used at other hotels in Turkey for several days beforehand. My room smelled of cigarettes. This seems common in Turkey, where there’s no law or even policy to make all or some hotel rooms non-smoking. The mattress was a bit firm. The bathroom fixtures worked, but the chrome had come off the taps and the cleanliness wasn’t great. The hotel also seemed like it hadn’t been decorated or updated for many years. On the plus side, it’s centrally located, around a 10 minute walk from the station. The room was spacious, with a kettle and tea bags, and the WiFi worked very well. Breakfast from 07:00 had a good selection of cheeses, olives, salad vegetables, bread, jams, and other things. There was tea but no coffee.

The breakfast was varied and nicely presented, and we enjoyed our stay at this Hotel. The room smelled very strongly of cigarettes at first, but The Manager, İbrahim, kindly offered us a double room each to make up for it. I’d stay here again if I visit Samsun.
