May Thermal Resort Spa Hotel

The thermal areas were either shut, including some saunas, or so dirty they were disgusting. The dinner was awful too. The bulgur was barely cooked and felt like biting stones. The rooms were very basic, and there weren’t any massage appointments available, though maybe that saved us from another disappointment. We arrived at 5 pm, well after the usual check-in time, and the room staff still handled the extra bed rudely. The woman prepared it without looking at us, then tossed the pillowcase onto the mattress as she left and told us there was another pillow in the closet. The hotel was badly maintained and needed cleaning and renovation. This was supposed to be a relaxing wellness break, but we left disgusted and more stressed. It wasn’t worth the money, feels like a one- or two-star place at best, and I wouldn’t recommend it or return.

I ended up nearly missing dinner while waiting for the room to be sorted out, and the meal wasn’t anything special for a “5 star hotel.” I’d booked ahead and arrived on time, but reception kept me waiting for hours. When I finally got to the room, it looked just as the previous guests had left it, with sheets on the floor and ear cleaners on the counter. I asked for it to be cleaned, then asked again while I went swimming, but nothing changed. They only cleaned after I got angry and was close to leaving. Afterward, I checked and still hadn’t been given shampoo. I ignored the bad reviews because the hotel looked decent. I wish I’d listened and stayed away.

The food was stale, overly greasy, and turned my stomach. The pools also seem poorly planned: getting from the thermal pool to the Olympic pool means crossing from one side of the hotel to the other. Even with the AC switched off, the fan in our room kept making noise. Internet access was difficult too, and we had to go down to reception to get connected. We booked two rooms. One supposedly had a king-size bed, but it was just two twin beds pushed together. In the other room, three people were staying, and after hours of waiting for an extra bed, the one they brought was so uncomfortable that you could feel the wrought iron underneath. We had to ask for extra mattresses. The place looks like its facade, fake luxury. I’m disappointed and can’t understand how it got five stars. I won’t come back or spend more money here.

I trusted the website and expected a decent place for my family, but the stay was a complete disappointment. The iron columns around the pool are rusted, though the ventilation pipes are not. Hygiene is a basic part of a spa, and this place was dirty, poorly maintained, and neglected. I wouldn’t expect that from such a big hotel. Please, please, I definitely recommend it! (Sarcastic.)
