Mehmet and Rosa were very kind, and the old mansion itself is lovely. Breakfast was simple but good, with spicy eggs, potatoes, olives, cheese, pita, and tea, and the rooftop breakfast room was pleasant. We paid Rosa to do our laundry. The room was basic but had a refrigerator, desk area, kettle, luggage space, and two hanging bars. The bathroom was a wet bath with no squeegee or extra towels to dry it, so it stayed wet. There was a mothball in the sink being used to mask the smell, which was awful; something more pleasant would have helped. There were only two hangers on each of the two clothing bars, and when I asked for more I got just two more. Our trash wasn't emptied during the four nights. We arrived without a booking and I wanted to pay by card at check-in, but Mehmet insisted on cash. I said I wouldn't pay cash and would book through booking com instead. He objected because of the commission, and we were ready to leave, but then he agreed to the app booking. If he doesn't want to pay booking com commission, he shouldn't list the property there. We also saw him ask other guests for cash.

The owner was very hospitable. To reach the hotel from the bus station, leave by the security exit, cross the car park, then take the stairs marked Ceksi. Once you get to the road, I took a no 72 bus, which goes to the bus stances about a mile from Balikigol ponds. From there I walked to the road near Toprak and caught a modern no 63 bus marked Balikigol. You have to tap a credit card to pay on that bus. To return to the station, I took the 63 and then a no 61 from the bus stances.

Mr. Mahmut, the hotel manager, was very helpful, and the central location puts the tourist sights within a ten-minute walk at most. Since the streets are so narrow, you leave the car on the main road above the mansions, about a three-minute walk away, and a parking space may not be available. The Konak Hotel has rooms with stone walls. Cleanliness was decent, and given the location, breakfast, and helpful manager, I thought it was quite good as long as expectations weren't too high.

Staying here feels more like being in an Urfa mansion than a hotel. It's a good choice if you want a local experience rather than the comfort of a standard chain hotel. The location is wonderful, with Balıklıgöl, the bazaars, and historical sights all reachable on foot. Mr. Salih was exceptionally kind and attentive, even picking me up from the bus terminal at 3:00 AM, a really thoughtful gesture. Whenever I mentioned a small issue, he dealt with it promptly and carefully. Breakfast is traditional Urfa style, not a typical hotel buffet, so come expecting a local meal. I'd strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience Şanlıurfa.
