Nazar Hotel

The owner, Ilkar, made our stay especially enjoyable. He's easy to talk to about almost anything, and as an experienced tour guide he shared helpful recommendations and background on the history and region. It felt like spending time with an old friend. The rooms are basic but have what you need. We also appreciated the excellent Turkish breakfast each morning, the comfortable lobby for reading or chatting, and the pool for hot weather. We were there in early spring, so didn't swim. The mostly residential neighborhood was fairly quiet. From the hotel it's just a few blocks to the town center, St John basilica, Isa Bey mosque, train station, and bus and mini-shuttle depots. To American eyes it might seem a bit scruffy, but we felt it was perfectly safe, similar to parts of Sicily. We had a pleasant, enriching stay. A great local experience if you're not looking for luxury.

Our Australian family of four stayed at Nazar Hotel for three nights while visiting Ephesus, and our time in Selçuk was so much better because of it. The host was helpful from the start, offering ways to get from Izmir airport, flexible check-in, and restaurant tips. We tried several and they were fab. His advice on timing our Ephesus visit to miss the cruise ship crowds was great, as were his tips about taxis and the local minibus. Breakfast was delicious and generous, served individually on the lovely rooftop with lots of homemade touches. The pool was lovely, and we enjoyed meeting the friendly guests from all over. We'd definitely recommend the hotel.

The manager's local knowledge made it easy to fit everything into our 1.5-day visit without rushing. He suggested an itinerary and shared tips on the sights in and around Şelcuk. Following his advice, we had Ephesus almost to ourselves for the first 40 minutes. The restaurants he recommended were all good, especially a small one tucked away from the touristy area in Sirince with lovely views. The hotel is well placed for the train and bus stations, all an easy walk away. I'd highly recommend it for the location and travel advice. Thanks!

We arrived late, but with the staff's helpful guidance we soon had an itinerary shaped around what we needed. They arranged taxis and other transport without any commission. Everyone was super friendly, knowledgeable, and keen to help. Couldn't ask for more! 😄
