Urkmez Hotel

The location is hard to beat: right across from the train station, an easy walk to St. John Catedral, and very close to the dolmus stop. Our room had a great window view, a working heater for our January visit, and was clean and cozy. The hot shower was great. There wasn’t a jug in the room, but we could use the one in the dining room. Breakfast there was plentiful, tasty, and clearly made with care. All the staff were friendly and helpful, even those who didn’t speak English well. The room and shower were tiny for three people, and it was on the third floor with no lift. Still, we loved our stay. The room may seem expensive for its size, but every place has its own standard, and it wouldn’t be fair to compare it with what the same price buys in my hometown.

The hotel isn’t as soundproof as some, but it was only a minor thing and didn’t keep us up or disrupt the stay. The room was comfortable, with a nice street view and even the top of the castle visible. Breakfast each morning was delicious and a wholesome start to the day. The people running the hotel were some of the kindest we met on our travels. It’s especially convenient if you’re arriving by train.

What sets Ürkmez Hotel apart is its homely, relaxed feel and genuinely friendly staff, who made us feel like family. The rooms were welcoming, clean, and comfortable, and breakfast was generous and delicious. It’s an easy five-minute walk from the train station, right in the heart of town with restaurants and cafés nearby. Major sights are walkable too, and bikes can be hired for exploring farther out. A very convenient, comfortable stay, and I’d recommend it highly for a trip to Selçuk.

We chose the hotel because it’s close to the train station, and it worked well for our visits to Ephesus ancient city, Ephesus museum, and Sirince. The bus station, with Dolmus to Ephesus and Sirince, is about a 5-10 minute walk away. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, and the Ephesus Museum is just across the street. Juned and Zafir gave us a warm welcome and were very hospitable and approachable. The woman serving breakfast each morning was also lovely, always smiling and full of positive energy, though I didn’t get her name. We looked forward to the delicious breakfast every day. Our room was always clean, and we had a balcony, a big comfortable bed, a safe, and basic amenities. Highly recommended.
