Coban Hotel Selimiye

It’s quiet and friendly, and feels like spending time with family, only without having to deal with them.

The location and beach were excellent. That’s about all I can say in favor of the Çoban Motel we booked for one night. The rooms were neglected and completely unhygienic, the bed was incredibly hard, and the towels and linens felt like sandpaper. At 10 PM a constant water noise started. It went on for an hour, then two, and kept me awake. I went to the lobby, though it was really the seaside bar area, to complain. The staff were having a sea party with 16-18 year olds while other customers sat there drinking alcohol. They thought the noise might be coming from the room upstairs and knocked, but no one answered. It carried on until 3 AM, along with the staff party noise. At 7 AM, clattering plates woke me up. It sounded as if they were in our room. I realized there was no way to sleep or rest at this motel. Breakfast was incredibly inadequate, and in my opinion there was no real breakfast at all. I’m so sorry, but I don’t even want to walk past this place again.

Mr. Murat gave us a valuable experience from the reservation onward, put us at ease, and organized every detail flawlessly. During our stay at Çoban Hotel in the unique atmosphere of Selimiye, we also had a peaceful holiday and experienced an exemplary approach to hospitality. My sincere thanks to Mr. Hasan for his elegance, knowledge, meticulous service and attention to detail. His care for guests showed real professionalism. The whole team made the stay feel like a living example of exemplary hotel and accommodation management. I hope we can meet the same team again in 2026 and experience this hospitality once more.

Apart from the issue at check-in, the hotel itself was very nice. The location, sea and breakfast were fantastic, the food was high-quality and delicious, and the rooms had lovely views. All the staff apart from the first manager were wonderful. Prices are very expensive, though, with a hamburger at 400 TL and a beer at 250 TL. We had called ahead to reserve a family room for 4 adults and 1 baby, who was 1 year old. The staff member said they’d check us in as 2 adults and 2 children and that there’d be no problem when we arrived. We trusted them, knowing the hotels in Selimiye are boutique places. They said the 2-adult, 2-child listing was for accounting and tax purposes. When we got there, a different staff member said there wasn’t a room for 4 people and that “+2 adults” meant we were quite “adults.” To my knowledge, anyone over 18 is an adult. When he saw that our mothers were 55, he said they were “quite old adults,” which was ridiculous. He refused to give us a room, saying we’d be uncomfortable. We spent almost an hour trying to explain the situation. It seems the person who took the booking and the person on arrival were different, and they acted independently.
