Robin's Nest

The only part that didn't work for us was the room cleaning. They came at 5:30 pm after we'd asked twice, and by then we declined the cleaning and only asked for fresh towels. Still, it was a memorable weekend for my boyfriend and me. The restaurant made a great impression, with a lovely lake view from the deck or inside if you get a seat outside. Instrumental music gave it a romantic, elegant feel. Breakfast was included and was the best hotel breakfast I've had, really generous and delicious. The restaurant staff were especially good, and the cats and dogs around were cute too. Between reception and the restaurant there's a cozy lounge with sofas and spots to read or talk by the fireplace. We came for the quiet, nature-filled, romantic setting suggested by the photos, and that was exactly what we found. I'd been worried by comments about declining quality, but they didn't match our experience. A kind, professional man welcomed us at reception and explained the hotel and area, then gave us a map. I forgot to ask his name, sorry. He showed my boyfriend and me to a huge, beautiful two-storey bungalow, warm and comfortable from the start. The bathroom and bed were clean, and the shower products smelled wonderful.

Room 307 is one to avoid if you care about your back. The bed made it impossible to sleep through the night, and the room was dirty. When we raised it the next day, there was no compensation. The receptionist said we might get a free night next time, but we don't plan to return. We'd stayed there twice before and always had a good time, which is why we chose it again to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The employees' rude behavior bothered us most. The service felt both stingy and impolite, and the food and service were poor. The bathroom was very old and difficult to shower in, and the materials throughout looked old and cheap. If you're looking for a pleasant place, stay away.

We'd gladly return to the restaurant, even just for breakfast. It looks great, the food is good, and the riverside seating has a lovely view. Inside, it's all wood, with a fireplace lounge and board and card games. The food was a little pricey for the small portions, but the atmosphere made that feel acceptable. As vegans we had a hard time finding options and ended up having to eat vegetarian, so those choices could be better. The hotel room was a different story. We had no other room to choose from, and this one felt very 1960s, with its carpet, bed, and wall covering. The heat worked well, almost too well, so even in cold weather we had to open the windows. We expected a cheap room and didn't have high hopes, but cleanliness was still a big issue, especially during the pandemic. Dust was everywhere, the sink was very dirty, and the showerhead was broken. The carpet covering the whole floor didn't inspire confidence either. There was no mini-fridge, even though the booking details said there would be one. In winter it wasn't a big deal, but I can imagine that being a problem in summer.
