Yazmacilar Hani Otel ve Restaurant

I have childhood memories of Yazmacılar Han, so coming back to stay at Yazmacılar Han Otel felt personal. The building has changed dramatically over fifty years. What was once a lively, chaotic place for making yazma (hand-painted kerchiefs) is now a peaceful, comfortable hotel. As a child, I remember concrete baths for painting, tables for wood printing, and colorful yazmas drying up high. The workers were often covered in dirt from the hard work and seemed absorbed in it as I walked past in a nice suit, worried about them but unnoticed. Now there’s a large central median opening and spacious rooms with high ceilings. The old industrial feel is gone, with only a few yazmas and one old picture on the walls to hint at the past. The renovation is beautiful, and I felt happy and relieved to see how much the place had changed. Still, I wish more had been done to remember the people who worked here, likely including the grandfathers of many Tokat residents. Their work, conditions, stories, and possible job-related illnesses are part of this place’s history and should be honored, so future generations can learn about them. I’d have liked more of that past preserved for visitors. One night during my stay, music and drinks brought the hotel to life, and it was a fun, memorable evening. At the same time, I couldn’t stop thinking about the people who had worked there before, and who may have become ill from the difficult conditions. Yazmacılar Han Otel has moved on from yazma production, but those memories stay with me. Today it’s an elegant, comfortable place to stay, renewed into a calm and enjoyable experience while leaving those hardships behind.

The rooms were big, clean, and beautifully decorated, and the staff were lovely. There was a good kahvaltı plate too. This hotel was a real gem and perfectly located for exploring Tokat. I’d highly recommend staying here as part of your time in the city.

The room was lovely, and so were the bathroom and shower. This beautiful old caravansery sits at the entrance to Tokat’s older part. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and both the museums and the commercial city center are easy to reach on foot.

The rooms were larger than I expected, decorated in an Ottoman/Seljuk style, and charming to look at. Each is named after a character from epics or tales, which are hung on the walls to read. The open buffet was prepared by very kind, friendly staff, and the reception and service came with a smile too. This really is a hidden gem in beautiful, history-rich Tokat. Watch out for the narrow alleys if you’re driving. The staff kindly offered to park our car in a nearby lot. Thanks to Batuhan and the rest of the team at Yazmacilar Hani Hotel for a pleasant stay.
