The drinks were inexpensive and pretty standard, but we walked away remembering the singer. My husband and I had just eaten at trendy Miam when we passed by and heard her voice. I assumed it was a recording, then realized she was singing live. Her jazzy voice had an incredible range. We’re from San Francisco and see plenty of great performances, but I couldn’t help wondering how she wasn’t famous, and feeling lucky we’d stumbled on her. In SF, people line up for things that don’t come close to this. She sang Turkish, Greek, and English songs, including “Autumn Leaves,” which she serenaded us with. The bartenders showered us with napkins, which my Turkish husband says is a good thing. The whole evening felt charming, genuine, and very romantic. There weren’t many people, and it looked like the owners had recently changed and were trying to grow the business. She’s there every night from 9pm. I’d recommend stopping for a drink and having an experience that deserves the hype without being overhyped.

The prices are ridiculous, especially when you may not even get what you ordered. They have a menu, but apparently don’t always have the listed items, so you end up with whatever they do have. The location is just OK, and I can’t say the same for the service or prices.

Torba has a beautiful sunrise, with fishing boats making a nostalgic sound and green meeting blue. The hotel itself has a great location and is beautiful, and it’s worth visiting and staying in. Two young brothers built it from scratch and brought it back to life. Some shortcomings are understandable given the last-minute rush to get ready for the season.

Don’t go to Bodrum expecting too much. It’s just a name, really. Unless you’ve booked a five-star ultra all-inclusive resort, I don’t see much point in going there.

The owners and managers stay in touch with their customers, and the prices are quite reasonable compared with the surrounding area. I left really happy and don’t know what more I could ask for as a holidaymaker. Right in the heart of Turkbuku Bay, it’s full of enthusiastic young people, delicious food, and Selen Hanım’s booming solo voice in the evenings. The sea bass, cooked by expert chefs, is incredibly tender. Wishing them all the best.
