Ali-Shan Kaofeng Hotel

The counter lady was rude and had a bad attitude. The service was very poor. We were caught in heavy rain, and when we returned to Ali-Shan hotel there was no one to pick us up. The driver had said the hotel could send someone if we called, since it was only a one- or two-minute drive. When I phoned, they said they didn't offer that service and couldn't help. We also asked for our money back because it was raining and we couldn't see the sunset. They had said refunds were allowed in rainy weather, but we weren't given one.

It was around 6°C outside, but there was no proper heating at Ali-Shan Kaofeng Hotel. The fixed electric heaters in the rooms were too weak and switched off after a while, so staying warm at night was impossible. We slept fully dressed under two blankets. For a hotel that isn't cheap, that level of comfort was disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it in the colder season.

The heated blanket gets uncomfortably warm, so I had to switch it off before going to sleep. There were no water bottles in the room either, so you need to bring your own bottle to fill. Breakfast is served outside the hotel, near the parking lot, and you have to walk there.

The location is the only good thing. My room on the first floor was noisy: I could hear people talking outside the window and motorbikes coming and going. The hotel is old, and the bathroom is very old and dirty. There's no air conditioner, so you can't adjust the room temperature. Not recommended. Trust the other reviews.
