Gau Shan Ching Hotel

The bed was very comfortable, and we had no problems with the staff, who were professional and efficient even when busy. The room is simple and a little old, with few amenities. The only issue was the shower: there's no curtain, and you have to sit in a small tub.

The rooms felt cramped, and the heater barely worked through a night when it was 3 degrees Celsius. Staff seemed apathetic and dishonest. Shortly after checkout, we called for help finding two rings my mother had left on the table. They said they couldn't find them and that there were no CCTVs, although I clearly remember seeing CCTVs along the hallway. I suspect either the cleaner or counter staff pocketed them. The location isn't worth the horrible experience, and I'd strongly recommend staying somewhere else.

The shuttle bus to see the sunrise was good, and breakfast was good too. But when the heater was off, a bad toilet and damp smell came through the air system. That system was also very loud, and I couldn't sleep. The windows in my room looked onto a brightly lit aisle rather than outside.

It was so cold and damp that we had to sleep in our outdoor jackets. The room looked gloomy and moldy. The website says the heater comes on from 6 PM to 6 AM when the temperature is 7 degrees Celsius; the front desk said it would turn on at a room temperature of 8 degrees. But even with the temperature at 5 degrees Celsius, the heater never came on. It was a terrible night.
