Getting up to the national park means taking the bus, but it stops right outside, so the location works well if you don't mind that. The room was clean and spacious, with good shower pressure. The hosts were warm and helpful, served tasty local tea and breakfast, and even took me to see fireflies.

We came back for a second stay on our Alishan trip because we fell for the place the first time. The husband and wife who run it are both so friendly, and the host responds quickly. From the window, you can watch the sunrise slowly spread color across the sky and mountains. It's a lovely way to start the day, and the room is spacious and clean. The wife still makes the same delicious, comforting breakfast we remembered from five years earlier. The husband runs a tea shop too. Before the pandemic, guests could make aiyu jelly together and then share some tea. They also helped us visit the nearby eryanping trail, driving us to the lookout at the top and picking us up at the exit.

David’s parents made us feel at home during our one-night stopover, and even arranged dinner for us. We also loved the tea David’s father made. In the morning, the Taiwanese breakfast was delicious, and the sunrise over the tea fields above the house is worth getting up for. There’s a great sunset viewpoint up the hill as well. The room was spacious and had what we needed. Such friendly people and a lovely stay. We’d recommend it to anyone visiting Alishan.

The meals were generous and tasty, and the room was cozy and clean, with a view of the sunrise right from bed. The host was lovely and easy to chat with. For getting around, the bus stop is a five-second walk away, a sunrise spot is two minutes on foot, and the sunset viewpoint takes a 30-minute hike.

We spent hours chatting over oolong tea in the shop next door. David’s parents clearly care about their guests, and they know a lot about the local area and Taiwan more broadly. They’re passionate about tea and its culture, too. Making it takes days, from hand-picking the leaves through repeated heating and preparation. You can buy your favorite oolong there. The location worked especially well between our Alishan and Fenqihu outings, with the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle stopping at Xiding right outside. David’s parents gave us directions for sunset on Eryanping trail and sunrise on Chashan trail. There are several hotpot restaurants nearby, though some need advance booking because they pick the vegetables fresh in the mountains. Our room was clean, spacious, and bright in the morning, and had the amenities we needed: towels, toiletries, a kettle, and tea and coffee. The decor was cute. David’s mom made a wonderful breakfast with congee, side dishes, fruit, and dessert. We had a great time at David’s House and would happily come back.
