Mega Hotel

The location worked well: near Chiayi train station, with pharmacy, a clinic, steamboat, and children's shop nearby. The clinic was good and friendly. The shower gel was provided, and the shower had good water pressure. The room was decent, and the childroom met what we needed. But the toilet had no washing feature, and the air conditioning kept switching off and on. We called the front desk, who could restart it from their side. Service at the front counter felt indifferent, which wasn't what I expected from a Taiwanese hotel. There was no breakfast, though decent eateries were nearby. The drop-off area was small, with room for only one bus and one car. They were hosting a tour group and asked our driver to move for the tour bus. We asked for an extra towel for our child while three of us shared one bed, and they wanted extra money. Usually with one small child you'd share a bed, and if sustainability is the reason, one extra bathroom towel still seems basic. The washing machine and dryer cost NT50 per cycle, worked inefficiently, and didn't get things dry, so we had to run several cycles.

The room was comfortable and spacious, with big, comfortable beds. The Wi-Fi was a little weak in the room, and the washroom didn't have a smart toilet, which is common in Taiwan hotels. A great place to stay the night in Chiayi.

We got a room on the 7th floor near the lift, with a balcony and a sofa seat. It was spacious, clean, fairly new, and pleasant. There was tea, bottled water, and a kettle, but no coffee. A water dispenser is on level 5. There was an offer on Nov 11.

The hotel and rooms looked really pretty, and the entrance had a one-way glass door that gave it a posh look. But over my three-night stay in March 2025, the service was a letdown. Reception staff were rude and unfriendly, with no smiles at check-in or checkout. The restaurant staff were just as unwelcoming when we asked about lunch menus. It felt like we owed them money, with all those unwilling, black faces. It's a shame, because the service at both the reception and restaurant could be much better.
