Guxiang Homestay

I found it a good place to sleep. The room was reasonably clean and had the basics. There were drinks and snacks downstairs in the living room, though we didn’t try any. The owner was welcoming and answered everything in detail. She didn’t push conversation, which suited me well.

Every room even had a bidet toilet, which gave it a bit of a luxury hotel feel. The owner was really friendly, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.

We’d already paid by credit card, but the owner said she knew nothing about it. It was after 8 PM on Sunday, and we’d collected the money from Guxiang B&B. The owner had gone to Taipei, while the cleaning lady came out and said she didn’t know anything. We’d driven all the way to Taitung and were exhausted. The payment had been taken, but no one dealt with the situation. After more hassle, we finally got checked in very late. We noticed the room was missing a toothbrush and toothpaste, though luckily we’d brought our own. The wall clock was four hours slow. I don’t understand why the owner took the money, then left for Taipei without explaining anything and abandoned the guests. Maybe he’s no longer invested in the B&B.

I’ve never stayed at such a bad guesthouse. Toiletries weren’t provided, and the price at the property was lower than the amount shown in the online booking, which left me wondering why I’d booked ahead at all. The owner didn’t seem to take the business seriously. They weren’t there, and there’d been no communication with the management about guests arriving. I also couldn’t tell whether I’d paid by card in advance or was supposed to pay when I arrived. I was confused because I thought payment was due on the spot.
