123 Cheers Hostel

We’d happily stay here again. It’s a lovely little place, close to the train station, and the host was really kind. They suggested some great things for us to do around the city.

The rooms have air conditioning and very comfortable beds, and there’s a nice shared space. Laundry is available, communication was easy, and both William, the owner, and the staff were great and happy to help. It’s also easy to get to from the train station. Keep in mind that it’s farther from downtown Hualien and the night market. There were also fewer visitors and tours during low season, after the big earthquake in 2024 and the typhon that closed many Taroko trails, so you may need to look for other options. I’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting Hualien.

Will was welcoming and friendly, and shared useful information about the Hualien area. We stayed three nights in one of the smaller rooms. It was quiet and had what we needed. Downstairs, the gorgeous communal area is a nice place to chat with other travellers, browse the bookshelf, or have a morning coffee. Water, tea, and nescafé are free. 123Cheers is close to the main station, with convenience stores and car and scooter rentals within walking distance. There isn’t a laundry machine in the hostel, but laundry services are nearby. We went to Taroko National Park. The trails weren’t open yet when we visited, but the ride through the park alongside Liwu river was stunning and well worth seeing. It made a great base for exploring Hualien, Taroko, and the surrounding area. Highly recommend, 5* for 123Cheers.

The private room felt cozy and homey, and I really liked the vibe. It was neat and looked just like the photos. The host was courteous and understanding, and the instructions were very clear.
