The hosts are cheerful, friendly, and helpful, and it’s a nice spot for a night or two. Hive is within walking distance of Hualien Train Station. The reception and a separate shared area for eating or hanging out are on the second floor. Rooms have air conditioning, each bed has its own fan, and the showers and toilets are in separate rooms.

The host was very helpful online, but nobody was there when I arrived. I felt like I was alone in the building the whole time, which was scary in a new town as a solo female traveller. The room doors also didn’t have locks.

The staff were lovely and so kind. They even printed my zhuilu permit for me. It’s right by the train station, and the common rooms have maps and travel suggestions. A really cute hostel, with lovely rooms, spacious bathrooms, strong hot showers, hair dryers, and everything was very clean. One of the most hostely hostels I’ve seen in Taiwan.

Really clean and artsy, and easy to find. It’s a two-minute walk from the train station: leave by the bus station side, turn left, keep going, and it’ll be on the right. Check-in starts at 3 pm. There are dryers, but no shampoo, shower gel, or towels, so bring your own.
