Hualien Bird's House Hostel

The owner was kind, and we enjoyed our three-night stay. The location is handy for the station, and there are free bikes for getting around town. We also found a delicious chicken rice place nearby, Jian Guo Road Turkey Rice. For Taroko, we rented a motorbike. As of December 2025, the earthquake had left buses and tours unavailable and the trekking routes closed, so we took in the scenery from the road. Parking the bike by the roadside was easy, and we really enjoyed the ride. There are traffic restrictions in the area. We left the Taroko entrance at 10am, right on time, and came back from Tianxiang between 12pm and 1pm. Don’t miss Qingshui Cliffs. Enjoy your time in Hualien!

Friendly people and a really good deal for the price. Highly recommend it.

We got a two-bed room at this very affordable hostel, so we more or less had a private space. The staff were friendly and spoke enough English to help, even though they didn’t speak much. It’s an easy walk from both the train and bus stations. They even lent us an umbrella when we went out to dinner in the rain. I’d stay here again if I came back to the area.

We were mainly using the Hostal as a place to sleep while visiting Taroko, and the spare bikes the hosts kindly lent us were a big help. It’s just two blocks from Hualian Station, and the hosts were super friendly. I had a great stay and would definitely recommend it. The price was more than fair, and my friends were all glad I handled the booking.
