Kaiyue Inn

Even though there were just two of us, we got a four-person room, and the double bed was so comfortable. It's handy for Dongdamen Night Market and places like the General's Mansion. The facilities are a little old and the decor feels dated, but the price is excellent. With domestic travel accommodation so expensive you might as well go abroad, this place is really good value. The service gets 100 points! So happy I got to see Kim Young-hoon in Hualien! ☺️

The room on the 8th floor had nice lighting and a comfortable feel, and the bathroom was clean with a separate shower and toilet. But I was horrified to find clumps of hair all over the floor. It wasn't just one or two, the whole floor was covered, and it was disgusting. We complained to the front desk and were moved to another room. That room might have been okay just to rest in, but I was staying overnight, and it was very, very old. The spare blankets were shoved carelessly in the closet, which was disgusting to open. I asked for a refund. At the desk, the woman seemed not to want to hear me and kept her head down doing her own thing, though she was smiling. I was already upset about the room, and her response made me angry. The whole experience was really unpleasant.

I was told at check-in that checkout was at 10:00, even though my reservation confirmation said 11:00. I planned to leave earlier, so it wasn't a problem for me, but I wonder why that discrepancy hasn't been corrected. The room door was left open, which raised all kinds of security concerns. It seems to be getting worse. I was glad to find a dummy card for the electrical system in the room, and I personally like the shoe-free entrance setup. The bathroom, especially the bathtub, hadn't been cleaned. This was awful. I asked the front desk to look at it around 11:30 PM on the 16th. Maybe not all the bathrooms here are cleaned. I had one more day left and asked them to clean the tub in particular on the 17th, but I wasn't sure they actually would. Even the floor not being cleaned made me uneasy, and I felt I should get a full refund. The bed's placement is strange too, with the toilet straight in view, so they should think about its direction. I was in a terrible mood. The next morning I repeated my cleaning request, and they offered to move us. I looked at two rooms, but both shower rooms were still sloppily cleaned, with shoes left inside. Hair was always there around the soap dish, and I didn't want to leave it uncleaned. I feel they should have changed our room the night before. It felt like I was being downgraded to a shoe-free shower room. When I got back later, the drinks in the fridge were frozen, so I moved to a different room. This is the first hotel I've stayed in where the floors were cleaned so poorly. The outlets weren't where I needed them, which was inconvenient. After the dirty bathtub, I wanted a long shower, but I was moved at 4 pm. By 11 pm the water had gone from warm to lukewarm, and I felt like I was catching a cold. The light switches were also in an awkward place when I went to bed. Taiwanese law has eliminated disposable slippers, but not providing regular slippers is still unacceptable. I wonder why the reviews are so good. I'm in a terrible mood.

I got a double room on Saturday, December 13th (114th) for just NT$882, a fantastic deal, especially for a weekend. Hualien has lots of places to stay, and this one is near Dongdamen Night Market, tucked in a quiet lane by the city center with plenty of attractions nearby. The staff were very friendly. It suits older guests or people after a short stay who don't expect too much, and it's good value. There is motorcycle parking outside. I stayed in renovated room 615, with wood floors, a new heating and cooling air conditioner, and a bathtub. It's a traditional hotel setup, with wooden doors and old-fashioned horn locks. Soundproofing was okay. The bathroom has a plastic tub, but no slippers, so bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, and soap. Paper towels, shower gel, and shampoo are supplied. There aren't many TV channels. Downstairs, the elegant shared area has a coffee machine, water dispenser, and sofas where you can sit and relax.
