Quiet and peaceful.

I came to Kinmen expecting it to be dull, but ended up having a great time. The scenery feels so different from Taiwan, and exploring by scooter with a map was a lot of fun. At first, coming from Taipei, the long rides between busy areas took some getting used to. Then I started missing the calm, the lovely beaches where nobody's jostling for space, the green forests, and the quaint guesthouses. The winding lanes among the old houses were a favorite, with surprising views around twists and turns, even at what looked like dead ends. Houshu Old House Guesthouse was clean, tidy, and convenient, with a distinctive, charming living space created by the owner. In the morning sun or the quiet golden light of evening, the small space made me feel like I'd traveled back in time to a simpler, more innocent era. I'm not someone who goes around eating and drinking all day, hauling lots of luggage, or visiting museums, but I'd recommend Kinmen as a place to recharge and reconnect with yourself. Houshu Old House Guesthouse makes a lovely starting point. Just between you and me, the owner is a fun guy, too. I'd especially recommend him to people who like meeting others and broadening their horizons.

Cihu Lake is close by, so it was convenient to see the Xiamen night view, and the neighborhood itself was very quiet, a nice setting for a slower pace. Mobile internet and Wi-Fi were both quite fast. The old house was lovely and clean, with a warm, welcoming feel inside. There were even drinks and pudding in the fridge, and both the helper and owner were very kind.
