We made the long drive to Sun Star Villa, and I’m glad we did. The setting is all plantations and home gardens, with two friendly dogs there to greet you. The rooms are beautifully and thoughtfully arranged. Ours had a fantastic bathroom with both a bath and a shower, and the second-floor rooms have a skylight overhead. Breakfast is served at the main hotel area, Wind Star, and the female owner prepares it with care. The male owner was friendly and helpful, and gave us tips for getting around Taroko Gorge. My Dad, hubby and I really enjoyed our stay. It was well worth the time and money.

We had a great stay, and I’d recommend this place to anyone wanting a getaway in Hualien’s well-known natural surroundings. The peaceful setting is lovely: the hosts have filled the front yard with flowers, plants, and trees, and the B&B fits nicely into the landscape of mountains and water. There are a few cycling trails nearby, including a bike path that makes riding safer and more enjoyable. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds comfortable, and all the amenities were there. The shared area is pleasant and relaxing, too. What really stood out was how thoughtfully the host and his family looked after us. We arrived without a car, and because the place is out in the countryside, they worried we might be bored. They came up with ideas as they would for a friend. When we joined tours, they coordinated with the operators to make sure we got to and from the guesthouse safely. They also helped with requests like buying train tickets and souvenirs, paying in advance to make things easier for us. The lady host took care with our meals as if we were family. She made delicious home-style Taiwanese food, using home-grown organic ingredients, plenty of fruit and vegetables, and changing the dishes with the seasons. The variety each day helped us eat well and stay healthy on holiday. They even insisted on preparing breakfast when we said we could skip it, since it was part of the package. Thank you, Mr Feng and family, for such a memorable stay.

The owners were so welcoming, and breakfast was generous, home-style food that set us up for the day. The cabins around the grounds have a lot of charm, and the animals were full of energy and fun to watch.

We had such a nice evening here and hope to return. The cabin was very comfortable, and both the views and shared spaces around the B&B felt peaceful and relaxing. The breakfast buffet was delicious, too. The owners were incredibly hospitable, thanks for having us.

The king-size bed was especially comfortable, with a standalone spring mattress topped by a 10 cm latex mattress. The bathroom has underfloor heating and drying around the clock, which helps with dampness. I loved the romantic look inside, a careful blend of Southern French countryside and Balinese style, though the purple exterior walls felt a little out of place and gave no hint of how thoughtfully decorated it was inside. I did find dust behind the mirror and TV, on the entryway picture frames and lampshades, and in the bathroom exhaust fan. I mentioned it to housekeeping, and they cleaned those spots very quickly. The cleanliness wasn’t perfect, but I still really liked the style. The water feature outside the common area was a thoughtful touch. Breakfast was a generous buffet with small changes each day and lots of fruit and vegetables. The dining area is on the first floor of the owner’s newly opened second building, “Breeze Star Whisper,” a pink detached house about 200 meters away. The walk there is lovely, with views of the Central Mountain Range and banana trees, plus the sound of water. I found the second house a bit showy, but the surrounding group of log cabins, each with two large beds, and the nearby taro field make up for the lack of space and give you that close-to-nature feeling. Driving is the best way to get there, though watch for oncoming traffic on the smaller roads.
