The room had a TV that wouldn’t stay in place, so I had to call someone up to fix it. The desks and sink were really dirty too. The worst part, though, was the lemon tea in the lobby. There were drinks and snacks there, and I took a sip before I realized there was a dead fly in the dark-colored drink. I spit it out as soon as I noticed. I told the staff, and they gave me four bottles of body wash. What was I supposed to do with four bottles of body wash? I’m going to be traumatized by that for the rest of my life. I also got diarrhea that night. This hotel gets good reviews overall, but it was genuinely the worst hotel I’ve been to.

My stay at Hoya Hotel in Kaohsiung was deeply disappointing. I even recorded cockroaches crawling in the breakfast bread section, which is a serious hygiene problem. The bad smell was there in the rooms and the hallways, and it made the whole stay uncomfortable. For a hotel that presents itself as modern and clean, this was unacceptable. I hope management takes immediate steps to improve cleanliness. Until then, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

The location is especially handy, right across from C2 station on the green line LRT, which connects to most of Kaohsiung’s sightseeing spots. Rooms are very large and work well for families with children, and the price is reasonable for the area. Staff were very helpful to foreigners and did their best to serve us. The chef made a vegan breakfast dish when we asked. Taiwan hotel association policy means they don’t provide toiletries, so bring your own. Weekend availability can be doubtful, so book well ahead.

The exterior might look a bit rough, but inside it’s a great hotel. Rooms are very spacious and have a nice shower room. The price is much more reasonable than at other hotels, with good breakfast and convenient parking. Best of all, there are Tesla/EV 11kw chargers right next to the lift lobby.
