Mu Chen Hotel

There's plenty of storage, and the rooms are spacious and reasonably priced. The newly renovated rooms are nice and comfortable, with temporary luggage storage and front desk staff. The bathroom has separate shower and toilet areas, but there are no small towels, only disposable ones. My room was on a lower floor, so late at night I could hear high heels and karaoke. The noise stopped around 4 AM. Light sleepers will need earplugs. When flushing, close the sink drain to keep unpleasant odors from coming up. The wall-mounted hairdryer isn't very user-friendly, and the shower gel leaves a slippery residue, so bring your own if that bothers you. There's no designated motorcycle parking, so you'll have to park in a nearby park.

There was smoke smell in the room all night, even though smoking was prohibited. It got stronger when the door was open. The soundproofing was poor, too: loud music from upstairs in the middle of the night and occasional high heels made it hard to fall asleep. The bathroom drain had a lot of hair on it, so the room hadn't been cleaned very thoroughly.

The staff were helpful and brought extra cookies and bottled water. The rooms were fairly clean, and the decor seemed quite new. Setting aside the noise, Muchen Hotel in Kaohsiung city center is excellent value for money, which makes the stay's problems a real shame. There was constant bass from a loudspeaker upstairs, high heels, and traffic noise from the street. Even earplugs didn't block it out. I contacted the staff at 4 AM and was able to change rooms, but the whole floor above was occupied by other hotels, so it was still very loud. With a noisy hotel directly above, a quiet night here seemed out of reach.

It's Sunday morning, or really 2:51 AM, and the disco upstairs is incredibly loud. I can hear the lyrics clearly over the singing. There was still noticeable hair in the room, which wasn't very clean. The counter staff were all friendly, but the poor soundproofing is an obvious problem. If you're thinking of booking, think twice.
