Royal Fine Hotel

The only real plus for me was the location, close to the MRT, Liouhe night market, and a 7-11 beside the restaurant. The hotel itself looks worn, and the room photos online don't match its actual condition. The furniture and curtains are old, there was no hand soap, and the ventilation noise kept us from sleeping well. The TV didn't work, and housekeeping each day was poor. Luggage storage is self-service too. I can't see this as a 4-star hotel. I've stayed in 3-star places that were much better.

The room had several nice touches: it looked new, had a pleasant shower and bathroom, and smelled fine. The air conditioning and fridge were quiet and cold, the kettle looked new with a metal interior and an exterior that was safe to touch, and the bed was very soft, almost like a waterbed. There were disposable slippers and hangers in the wardrobe, plus UCC Coffee and tea packets on the tray. The room was clean, with a very clean floor and surfaces, though the top of the headboard hadn't been wiped. I could open the window and didn't hear other rooms. The pillows, however, were soft and flat. My main issue was the service at reception. We had asked for a high, quiet room, but got the second floor, where traffic noise came through the poor soundproofing. The Wi-Fi was slow and weak: uploading a YouTube video took ages, and my banking app kept closing. At check-in, the receptionist asked for my Agoda booking number instead of just my surname, so I had to find a screenshot on my phone. She then handed over a luggage strap for us to wrap around our own bags and pointed out where to move them. We had to extend and adjust the strap ourselves while she stayed at the counter with no other customers there. The luggage tags were left on the counter for us to pick up. When we came back at night for our luggage and room card, I gave the tags to a male receptionist, who checked my reservation again using my passport. I went to release the strap myself. Another male staff member came out to collect it and asked for the tags, not knowing I'd already given them to his colleague. The desk also made us do the work to get basic information: the male receptionist asked whether English or Chinese was better, then gave me a laminated sheet to read while he turned away. When I asked if the Wi-Fi password was in the room, he said I had to take a photo there, so I took a snapshot. I've never had to do that at another hotel. He didn't tell me where the lift was or say anything else. There were other oddities. A neighboring door slammed early in the morning and made my bed shake. We only got one room key card, and had to pay for another. The wardrobe and bedside drawers wouldn't open, which wasn't a problem, just strange. The bathroom ventilator made no sound at all, so I wondered if it was working. It's quite a walk with luggage from Cianjin station, and then you have to deal with the reception staff. The room and price were good, and housekeeping was good. The room was clean, the floor had no stray hairs, and the surfaces were clean. The window opened. I didn't hear other rooms. The bed was very soft. The bathroom and shower looked new. The air conditioning and fridge were quiet and cold. The kettle looked new, had a metal inside and a safe-to-touch outside. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was small, which seems reasonable for a city hotel, and mostly clean except for some fallen hair in one spot. The bed was very soft and comfortable, though anyone who prefers a firm mattress might not like it. Street noise carried on through the night, but it wasn't too bad unless you're sensitive to sound.

The laundry machines were really convenient, and the front desk staff were very kind. After a few stays in Taiwan hotels, it was a relief to finally get a room that was clean and actually matched the website pictures. Thank you 😁
