Shihzuwan Hotel - Kaohsiung Station

The location is the only thing this hotel has going for it, and there are hundreds of other hotels in the area. We arrived an hour early even though our room was ready, and they charged us 300 NTD to check in. We also had to pay 100NTD for each of the two extra pillows we requested. The bed was much too soft, and the pillows provided were foam. To me, it felt like needless money grabbing and awful service. Our room smelled like stale cigarette smoke, and the breakfast was barely edible. It's the worst hotel breakfast I've ever tried, with no western options at all. Terrible hotel. Don't choose it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the beds were comfortable. We were there for a ten night quarantine stay with our three year old, so we didn't do much, but the room worked for us. It was large, with two king sized beds, and the bathroom had two sinks, a shower, and a two person jacuzzi. The jacuzzi was very enjoyable and had a TV, while the beds also had a TV setup. The shower pressure was good. The furniture and room were in good shape apart from two worn chairs. There was a musty smell when we came in, but it didn't bother us after that, and leaving the windows open seemed to clear most of it. The air conditioning was quite good, which was essential in the Taiwan summer heat. The view looked onto a fairly quiet Kaohsiung back alley. It wasn't pretty, but watching the locals go about their day gave it some charm. During the day the alley smelled, and mosquitoes came in at night, so we had to keep the windows closed more than we wanted. Fortunately, the air conditioning was good. The food provided was adequate, though nowhere near the best Taiwan has to offer.

It’s handy for the station, and the reception service was nice. The rooms are quite large, there’s a big bath tub, and they provided free snacks.

There's a good range at breakfast, though it's Chinese style rather than a western spread. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The subway is within walking distance.
