Star Hotel

We had a nice view from the room, though it was nothing fancy. The street was quiet, and the location worked well, just two blocks from the night market.

I was there for a five-day business trip. On day four, I noticed two yellow things beside the bed. They turned out to be paper bags from pepper cakes. How long had that rubbish been there? That's why this gets one star. 🤔 Some odd things happened during the stay, though I didn't see anything. One night, the light flickered for a while. I started recording it to show my friends, and it stopped as soon as I opened the camera. Old wiring could explain it. Another night, a little after 3 a.m., I heard water very clearly from the bathroom, right beside my bed. It sounded like a shower hitting the floor, lasted a short while, then stopped. I was too tired to get up, and figured it might have been a neighbor showering. The soundproofing was terrible. On the last night I left the TV on for some background noise, hoping it would make the earlier strange moments less unsettling. In the morning it was off. The remote was in front of the TV, and I hadn't gotten up overnight. Maybe it has a power-saving setting that shuts it off if you don't change channels. All of this might just come down to old equipment. After all, it's the seventh month of the lunar calendar! 😵‍💫

The room looked okay and the balcony was pretty big, but I only booked because I couldn't find anything else during the Spring Festival. For the price, I wouldn't have chosen it otherwise. The wooden support under the bed gave way as soon as I lay down, and the whole bed came apart. We had to work out how to put it back together.

We needed somewhere to stay at 10 p.m., and this place was a decent find for a reasonable price. It feels like a detached house turned into a guesthouse, with a night market nearby and useful amenities around the neighborhood. The TV wasn't working when I checked in, though I'm not sure if my connection was the issue. If you can live with that small drawback, it's fine for an overnight stay.
