The Cloud Hotel Kaohsiung

The breakfast was substantial, and the room had handy lighting controls and good tech. The bed was acceptable too. But there’s a strange, off-putting feel to the place. The front desk staff weren’t friendly, and both seemed unsettling, almost like something from a horror movie. The room itself is nice, though small and windowless, and the lack of an outlet by the bed is ridiculous.

This was the best-value hotel I stayed at on my trip, after trying places all over Taiwan. The room was very clean and fairly spacious, breakfast was included, and the staff were friendly. They also offer laundry service. It’s close to the MRT and night market, and I’d stay here again.

The strange smell in the lobby and hallway was hard to place, and there was a faint cigarette odor in the room when I first walked in. It wasn’t a major bother, though. My friend and I stayed two nights in Kaohsiung and had a good experience overall. The location right by Formosa Boulevard station is super convenient for changing between the Orange and Red MRT lines. Our room felt new, was clean and well equipped, and had comfortable beds, plenty of closet space, and a roomy bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was okay, though the selection felt a bit limited after a few days. Two women kept the food topped up. I stayed for seven nights and found the place very clean and quiet, on a quiet road with easy access to the extensive underground train network and local buses. The night market is a five-minute walk away. Room cleaning was very good each day, the kettle was handy, and there’s a drinking water tap in the bathroom. Hot water was plentiful and the Wi-Fi worked without issues. Even the TV remote was clean and had a plastic cover, unlike the sticky ones I often find. I recommend it.
