Hotel G7 Taipei

The toilet was really dirty and moldy, and the free breakfast was so bad we went only once. The location also wasn't good for us, far from all the tourist attractions, with the hassle of changing metro lines repeatedly. This was my first and last stay, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel. I paid extra for a balcony room but was put on level two with a blocked view. I had requested a high floor in the booking, but still got a low room even though the hotel wasn't fully booked. It has nine floors in total.

The basement room was windowless and smelled damp and like sewage. The odor covered the whole floor, noticeable as soon as you got out of the elevator. I don't know whether rooms on other floors smell too, but it may be worth checking reviews. The bathroom was very dark and poorly lit. The light controls had special buttons that glowed all night, and I couldn't switch off their glow while sleeping, which disturbed my rest. There was a small discount for the basement room, but even with that, I don't think it was worth the experience. It felt like being sent down there as an unwanted stepchild, with no breakfast. Given what basement guests put up with, I think they should be treated equally with everyone else. At the same price, I'd choose another hotel.

We were a family of ten in five rooms, and the experience was disappointing. The room was extremely cold and stayed uncomfortable even after the air-conditioning was off and a technician came to adjust the temperature. I also asked for an extra towel and was told it would cost $300. I offered to exchange my used towel for a clean one, but they still insisted on the $300 cleaning fee. They kept repeating the policy of one towel per person per night, which felt unreasonable and inflexible. The service and comfort were well below what I expected, and I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

For an arrival outside regular hours in Taipei, this worked really well as a place to land. The rooms are roomy, and check-in is available around the clock, which suited my needs.
