The room felt modern, and there was self-service laundry. The cleaning lady was friendly, and the service with requests was great. Nice environment overall. The location is a little out of the way. You need about a 10-minute walk to reach the southern areas with the best food, though a bus stop is fairly close around the corner and the MRT is about a 10-minute walk.

Before arriving I emailed to ask whether the hotel could accept a whisky delivery. The front desk replied quickly and agreed, then received the package safely and kept it for me until I got there. The room was good, and it's handy for taking the train to the airport. We spent a couple days in town first, then moved here for two nights, which was a nice way to see another part of Taipei. There isn't much around and it's quite far from town. We did have an issue at the restaurant: we ordered beer, but they changed the price without telling us before serving it. Still, the stay was good overall.

I've stayed here twice for more than three weeks in total. Service has improved a lot since last year. Early check-in used to be a strict no, but this time it was possible once a room was ready, with an eMail notification. Mine came shortly before 12 p.m., which was a welcome change. The biggest unresolved problem is the deposit. At check-in they ask for a large amount, nearly 1.5 times the total bill. They forgot to release my preauthorization after checkout, and over $35,000 NTD was still blocked on my card three weeks later. There's no email address, so sorting it out from abroad has been difficult. I called a week ago and was told it would be released immediately, but it still hasn't been resolved. The room is spacious, with quiet air conditioning, comfortable beds, and high quality blinds. You can hear the road at night, though not louder than you'd expect in a city like Taipei. There are several water dispensers, a free coffee machine near reception, a small gym, and a decent pool. Sunbeds are limited both by the pool and in the lower area, despite the available space. The pool also closes fairly early, and there's a 30-minute lifeguard break around 5 pm when the pool area is closed, just when many guests would want a swim before dinner. Breakfast still has a good range of fresh options, including a Japanese section, and vegetarian and vegan items are clearly labeled. But compared with last year, fresh juices have been replaced by sweetened drinks or soft drinks, and the salad bar and Western breakfast choices have been cut back a lot. For example, there's now only one kind of marmalade and cheese. Vegan choices were already somewhat limited and seem even more reduced now. The lobby bar has been replaced by a Louisa Coffee, but there is hardly any staff and the Cafe doesn't keep the usual coffee-ordering hours. One upside is that without a bar or staffed Cafe, you can now gather there with your own drinks, which wasn't allowed before unless you ordered a drink and/or paid a cork fee. For local errands and business trips the location works well, though it's a bit less convenient for sightseeing. The nearest MRT station is still only a 10-15 minute walk. My ratings: overall 8.3/10, service 7/10, location 8/10, breakfast 8/10 ($462 pP), cleanliness 10/10, room/facilities 9/10, value 8/10 ($4,736 in Oct). It's a comfortable, clean stay with good facilities and better service than last year, but the deposit process and lack of contact options beyond phone need urgent improvement.
