I don't often post negative reviews, but people should know what happened. I paid in full through Booking.com for five nights at Hotel Walker in Taipei. On arrival, the room was extremely dirty, poorly maintained, and smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, far below what I expected from a clean hotel. I checked out the next day. I wasn't asking for all my money back: I was willing to pay for the extra night and simply change the remaining dates through Booking.com. The hotel refused, pointing to its “policy” and saying the discounted rate meant no changes or refunds. I ended up paying $136 USD for two nights, though I effectively used just one, in one of the dirtiest hotels I've come across in Taipei. This isn't about the money. The conditions and lack of flexibility or consideration are the issue, and future guests should know.

The staff were very friendly, and I enjoyed the good food at breakfast. The rooms are fairly nice with basic amenities. Walker Hotel is well located, close to shopping spots such as Ximen Market.

We chose this hotel for its location and price, since the photos and reviews made it look good. The staff were friendly, but the reality didn't match the pictures and the place was very dirty. The rooms smelled of cigarettes, and the roof had mold that made the room smell musty. There were roaches in the toilet paper dispenser, the bathroom was disgusting, the bedroom floor was dirty, and the carpets had huge stains. Laundry isn't provided by the hotel; there's just a laundry business nearby.

For the price, this is a solid budget hotel, and I've stayed twice. Both times, though, there was a lingering cigarette smell, even though smoking isn't allowed.

The location is handy, with a 7-Eleven and FamilyMart nearby. It's easy to get around by bus, though the walk to the train station is a bit farther. The shower room is spacious and has a bathtub. There was a moldy smell in the room, but opening the window helped.
