Guide Hotel Taichung ZiYou

I found the Double Superior Room very spacious and comfortable, and the price-to-quality value was high. The service was very good too, with staff responding quickly and treating me warmly and courteously. This is the best hotel I've stayed at in Taichung. There are many bus stops nearby, and Taichung Ubus Terminal and Railway Station are also within walking distance, about 750m away.

You can catch a bus right outside, and Taichung train station is within walking distance for trips to other parts of the city. There's a Family Mart opposite and some underrated food nearby. The room was large and clean, with a really big toilet and a shower area big enough for a bathtub, though there isn't one. No restaurant, pool, or gym, but there is plenty of parking. The four pillows we had varied in firmness, so ask for extras if you need to find ones you like. Check-in is strictly at 4pm, down to the second, and the unmanned kiosk gives an error if you try earlier. Two key cards are issued, and you have to tap one in the lift, which feels safe. They can store luggage if you arrive early, in an open area near the counter rather than a separate room. Someone is at the front desk at all times.

My room had exposed LED wires, as if it was unfinished, and the carpets and floor on the eighth floor were filthy. It felt new but as though it hadn't been cleaned since opening. The place is poorly maintained, just as other reviews say. I don't know why the reviews are so positive, so read the comments carefully.

Getting help with the basin drain was a hassle. I reported it to guest service before heading out in the morning, but it still wasn't fixed when I came back. No one answered when I called, so I had to go down to the lobby for assistance. The room was spacious, but opening the door brought a strong damp smell. I was on level 8, with no windows, and a locked door said to be for Karaoke that made me uneasy throughout the stay. The hotel was fully booked, so I couldn't switch rooms. The location was convenient, with buses to various places, though breakfast was served somewhere else.
