Sun Hao Hotel.Taichung

We chose this hotel for its location, easy access to the train and within walking distance of most places, as well as the size and price. Our suite was around 700 to 800 sq ft and cost about RM900. The room was big, with a supportive mattress and nice ambient lighting. Both the living room and toilet were spacious, and the toilet had lots of natural light. Breakfast was okay, a typical Taiwanese breakfast that you can't find elsewhere outside Taiwan.

For us as Muslims, breakfast was the one letdown. The selection was limited to fruit, taro balls, steamed taro buns, bread, cereal, and milk tea, without eggs or heavier dishes. Still, we had a great experience and I'd totally recommend it for the comfort. We stayed at Sun Hao Hotel in Taichung for two nights, and it was the best hotel of our Taiwan trip. The room was super spacious and clean, the service was great, and 7E and FamilyMart are really close by.

It's a pretty great hotel, but there was no hand soap by the bathroom sink. I understand the sign at reception saying they don't provide free toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower caps, razors, and other amenities. But when I asked about hand soap, they told me to use the body soap in the shower. That would be easy enough if it weren't fixed to the opposite wall inside the shower with a door. To wash your hands after using the toilet, you literally have to step into a wet shower to get soap. With COVID and avian flu so prevalent at the moment, that doesn't really give the impression that hygiene matters to them.

A pretty decent hotel, with a large room, natural sunlight, and a simple Taiwanese breakfast like porridge. The food was decent if you're not too particular about it. Two things lowered my rating. The bathroom sink had no soap, so I had to step onto the wet shower floor to get some. Also, I wasn't flexible enough about checkout. It was my own fault that I accidentally packed my second key card in my large luggage, but I had to dig through it until I found it because a TWD fine was due.
