Twinstar Hotel

A good affordable place near the train station. The staff were kind and gave us exceptional help when our bag was lost on a bus. They retrieved it quickly and kept in touch with us throughout.

Good value for the money, and the location is good. The room was big, though the old hotel carpet had a strong smell. Breakfast was the same each day, standard and not especially tasty, but okay for what we paid.

It’s close to Taichung Train and Bus Main Station, beside Taroko Mall, and within walking distance of Miyahara, Sun Cake Museum, and other places. But the bedsheets were really itchy, as others have mentioned. I got what seemed like insect or bed bug bites after sleeping there. I asked for fresh sheets at night, but they wouldn’t give me any. After that, I didn’t even try the breakfast. At the weekend price, it wasn’t worth it. If you want a budget stay that’s comfortable in Taichung, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The location is fantastic, just a two-minute walk from the MRT, beside a mall, with food stalls across the road. The room was small but comfortable, the shower had great water pressure, and the service was friendly, enthusiastic, and proactive. It’s a cheap hotel, so I tried to keep my expectations in check. It was a good stay overall, and I’d happily come back. A few small details could make it much better. The pillows provided were flat, though staff were happy to bring more. The blanket was smaller than the bed, but I was warm enough without a bigger one. A mattress protector or underlay would also have made me feel a lot better.
