Smile 73 Hotel

We liked the big rooms and the children’s play area. Breakfast was tasty, though I preferred the sandwiches. The staff were friendly and even gave us gifts after they forgot our breakfast. The location made it easy to get around. It’s near Poya beauty, a Michelin restaurant known for pork chops, and a dumpling shop with delicious dumplings and a very kind owner. 7 eleven and family mart are close by for a quick bite, and the night market is also generally nearby.

A clean, good-sized room at an excellent price. The hotel is near Taichung Green Park. Parking is available, but you have to buy it with the room or purchase it separately after checking in.

I paid for a two-hour late checkout on day 1, but on day 4 an automatic call came at the normal checkout time, followed by a receptionist asking us to leave. When I explained I’d paid for the extension, the receptionist seemed surprised. At checkout I had to show the receipt because there was no record in the system, and I got no apology, only an explanation that they had no system for late checkout. There were problems from the start. On day 1, the receptionist charged the wrong amount to my card and refunded it, but the original amount is still blocked. I made a second payment, and nobody apologized for the mistake or the considerable inconvenience. On day 3, after a full day trip, we asked for no housekeeping so we could sleep longer. An hour later, housekeeping opened the door while we were asleep and woke us up. It happened twice.

The room itself was generally okay, but the Wi-Fi was so unreliable that I couldn’t watch Netflix or Disney Plus in the afternoon or at night. The room’s signal would disappear, and trying another room’s network didn’t help because the connection kept failing or had no internet. Especially while abroad, that poor Wi-Fi was really disappointing.
