Tainan Cambridge Hotel

The room was very spacious, breakfast was very good, and they also served a nice afternoon snack. Self-service laundry is available, and there’s a shuttle to and from the train station. The rooms are somewhat old, though, and the corridor has no air conditioning, so it gets hot and humid. We smelled cigarette smoke on our first night, but not the next day. I wonder if someone in the next room was smoking.

The hotel is a little far from Tainan station, about 1 km, but the walk was worth it. The staff speak English and Japanese, so communicating was never a problem. We slept really well on the very cool bed, and the room was clean and steady. I especially liked the breakfast fruit, and there were good vegetarian choices too. Some parts of the facilities seem a bit old and need to be kept cleaner.

The staff were eager to help and went out of their way to make guests feel welcome. I appreciated the good breakfast and the afternoon tea with free drinks, ice cream, and snacks. The station is about a 1 km walk away, which is manageable, and several well-known Tainan spots are also within walking distance, including Shennong Street, Yongle Market, and Hayashi Departmental Store, along with plenty of great places to eat. The rooms look dated, though they’ve made some effort to refurbish parts over the years. Temperature insulation isn’t great, so beds by the windows can feel cold in colder seasons. Noise insulation is also inadequate. Aside from that, the bed was comfortable, the toilet worked, the shower was hot, and the amenities were adequate.

The room was clean and a decent size for a double, with enough space to walk around. It’s near Tainan train station, and the staff were attentive. Free breakfast is served daily until 10, with some items changing each day. The only concern was the instant water kettle, whose wiring felt a bit loose when boiling water.
