Ga House

The house was designed by Zhang Guoxin and stands on its own, with no buildings on either side. Its white exterior is made from dismantled formwork. A huge bougainvillea drapes down, its red flowers standing out against the white in the spacious open area. Behind it, another house has multicolored tiles arranged in radiating patterns, making a lovely scene. The bougainvillea looks best in bright sun in the morning or around midday, but near dusk it looks dark and shaded because of the backlighting. Visitors focus so much on that photogenic bougainvillea that they miss the ripe mulberry tree, the newly fruiting mango tree, and the several banana trees behind the house. Around the corner toward the shipyard, a few more bougainvillea bushes are flourishing gracefully.

Lim Moniang Park is lovely for looking out at the scenery and boats, and the Eejae Golden Castle Historical Site nearby is a nice place to wander around. Beside the guesthouse, there’s also a white wall that draws people looking for Instagram photos.

I took this picture a few days before the bougainvillea snapped and disappeared. I hope people will remember it through this photo.

With no other buildings around, this standalone house has a lovely open view and plenty of space. It’s an architect and artist’s homestay, almost like an art gallery. Really nice.
