Kindness Day Hotel

It made a comfortable base for my six-night trip, and I hope to return. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. There’s a 7-11 a block away, and Carrefour is about a 1.3 km walk if you need more things. The room wasn’t very big, but it was cozy and thoughtfully laid out for a longer stay. It had a mini refrigerator, hair dryer, kettle, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and slippers. The AC was cold and easy to adjust, the window opened, and there was a drinking water dispenser in the hallway. The laundry room provided detergent, and I could print a few things for free in the small business area. Breakfast had a nice buffet with plenty of healthy and vegetarian options. Coffee, tea, and ice cream were available anytime. From 7-10 pm they served evening snacks with free beer or juice. Usually hotel snacks are just instant noodles and chips, but here there was pasta with vegetable toppings, edamame, tea eggs, chicken, madeleine, and canelle. Very nice.

The hotel is a good chain property, though getting to local eateries takes at least a 15-20 minute walk. Bikes are available if you’re willing to ride in the traffic. The room was nice but somewhat small. There are touches you’d expect from a five-star place, like fragrance in the hallways. Dinner-sized supper is included for guests with smaller appetites. Oden seemed to be the main item, alongside drummets, cookies, ice cream, and drinks from the coffee machine. Breakfast also had a good, complete mix of local and Western food. Staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were polite and accommodating. They work hard: I saw some finishing after midnight and back at the hotel around 7 the next morning. The toilet was fine, and the Japanese toilet was especially satisfying in winter, with a heated seat and warm bidet water. Free laundry was convenient, too, with detergent and laundry bags provided.

The rooms are spotless and roomy, and the staff are genuinely helpful and wonderful. Bikes are free, and the ride from Kindness Day Hotel takes ten minutes. If you don’t want to cycle, a taxi to the centre is 130 NTD. I can’t believe some of the spoiled, negative reviews here. There’s a lot of white and Asian privilege in them. Someone complained about smells near the hotel, but that’s nonsense. If you need a smell-free environment, sleep under a perfume counter in a department store. Try New York or London if you want smells. Tainan is beautiful, clean, and safe, and Kindness Day Hotel is wonderful.

The room turned out bigger than I expected, and the bed was fine for two. Breakfast was okay, while supper didn’t have much to choose from.
