Queena Plaza Hotel Tainan

I’d put this at 3.5 stars at best, though the weekday price I paid for two nights was also at that level. We had a good stay, but the hotel could be better cared for. What worked well: the staff were helpful and friendly, the holiday decorations were nice, and we got free transport from the high speed rail station. They provided infant items at no charge, including a crib and bedding, baby bath tub, and bottle sterilizer. They also helped us arrange private transport for our large party and an infant car seat. There were maintenance issues around the property: tarnished fixtures, dust buildup, missing letters on signs, and sad-looking grass in the outdoor area. The garden space itself is beautiful and relaxing, until you notice banquet chairs stacked high and dusty spare tables with drawings people had traced in the dust. Room blinds were dusty, too. The toiletries were sparse, and the shampoo and conditioner didn’t match, which was odd, though not a big problem. Breakfast was mediocre. Around 8:30 one morning, food was no longer being replenished, with empty dishes and stale bread. It seemed a little better when we came down at 8 the next day. The smoke detector light blinked all night. The air conditioning was loud and confusing, and never seemed to get the temperature right. The infant cribs were the worst part. The first had stripped screws and a frame that was falling apart. On the second, a wheel came off as housekeeping pushed it into our room. The third finally seemed usable and not like a death trap. We visited in the off season and didn’t use the pools, spa, or gym. We ate at the buffet, Japanese restaurant, and Chinese restaurant, mostly because there weren’t other dining options nearby. They were decent.

The garden was beautiful, and the gym and pool area were nice. I had a lovely two-night stay. There’s a good coffee shop space for working, quick same-day laundry service, and a convenience store nearby.

The rooms are nice, and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The pool is great and open from early until late, though you’ll probably need a swim cap to use it. There are around 10 or 12 lounge chairs for your things. This is a very nice 4 star hotel that presents itself as 5 star, but there’s nothing wrong with being 4 star. Breakfast has lots of options, mostly medium quality, so there’s something for everyone.

I was very satisfied with the food, and all the crew were really nice. Good service.
