The house is beautiful, and the location is wonderful, which makes the two-star rating especially disappointing. I'm upset by the unequal treatment of guests: only a certain group can use the washing machine, so I was shocked to learn my friend had to go elsewhere to do laundry. I also forgot to upload my passport copy the day before arrival and sent it at 8:30am, but didn't hear back until later in the afternoon. By then I was already in Tainan and had to leave my luggage at another place. It was a hassle. It's unfortunate because the house really is lovely. I also heard they give a free drink for a 5-star review. Why do that when you already have a great place? They could listen to feedback and make it even better instead of buying reviews. I'd suggest making laundry available to everyone, and keeping instant coffee as an option when the machine runs out.

The decor is lovely, check-in was easy to do by myself, and the Japanese garden outside was a joy to see. I was so happy to sleep on tatami and a futon in Tainan! 🪴

My single ensuite was a lovely place to stay, clean and well situated in Tainan, with a beautiful traditional look and a peaceful atmosphere. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, and I'd definitely come back. The only issue was the air conditioner, which sat very close to the bed and blew straight at it. That's not ideal at night. Maybe something could redirect the airflow. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The Japanese-inspired look gives Red House & Old Lane-ChengGong Inn a calm, distinctive feel, and my room was comfortable enough for a really restful stay. Everything was clean and well cared for. The host was quick to respond and helpful, and all the complimentary amenities made it feel like my needs had already been thought of. I had a lovely time here and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
