Reikei Hot Spring Resort

A hot spring resort that seems suited to couples or families, with both private rooms and a public bath. The public hot spring bath is open from 11 AM to 9 PM. There’s a bus, but I’d suggest coming by car.

We paid around NT$8,000 a night, and the experience didn’t feel worth that price. Dust was clearly visible behind the TV and around the window blinds. Breakfast was disorganized, with no staff there to help or restock anything. The underground parking was having its epoxy floor painted, and the chemical smell was overwhelming. Compared with other hot spring hotels we’ve tried, the service and value both fell short. I wouldn’t recommend it based on this stay.

The in-room hot spring was nice, but the rest of our five-day stay was a mess, with several major annoyances and safety concerns. The lobby men’s toilet was out of order the entire time. Our toilet backed up during normal use, and the only elevator serving our floor was out for several hours. Housekeeping left water running under the bathroom counter, so we came back to water pouring across the floor. When an engineer came to fix it, he tracked water through the room. Three people were then sent to clean, but they only mopped the floor. They left water on the shelves and didn’t remove the soaked hair dryer. The hotel seemed unfinished and open while construction was still going on, which wasn’t what I expected for the price. The windows have no screens, so families with children need to be extra careful. Breakfast was poor, with the same limited choices each day. There are meant to be two elevators reaching every floor, but one only goes to the third floor, so you have to transfer there to go higher. The parking spaces are so tight that getting in and out of the car is difficult when cars are parked close together. The hot spring wasn’t enough to make up for all of that. I strongly don’t recommend this place.

Having the hot spring bath right in our room meant we could soak without going anywhere, and that was lovely. It was huge and took a while to fill, but very relaxing. The room included breakfast. One privacy issue: some of the toilet panels were translucent enough that you could partly see someone using it from the room. The hotel is up on a mountain, so dining choices nearby are limited, though there are a couple of restaurants and a convenience store a few minutes away.
