Annie's House Taipei - Hostel

The owners treated us like pests even though we paid rent every month on time. I’ve lived in share-houses before and consider myself considerate: I clean up after myself and try not to inconvenience anyone. These were the most unreasonable owners I’ve ever met. When I left for home in the Netherlands, they said they’d send my 19,500NTD deposit through Paypal because I couldn’t use cash anymore, after deducting 5000 because my boyfriend had sometimes worn his slippers both indoors and outdoors. Once I got home, they said I wouldn’t get anything back. They’re quite literally thieves, and I regret choosing this money-oriented hostel. Please don’t support a business that operates this way. During our five-month stay, they removed the kitchen trash can halfway through, affecting 11 long-term tenants on the floor. We had to collect garbage in plastic bags and take it to public bins. When a short-term tenant stayed for a few days, they put the can back and acted like everything was fine, then took it away again after the guest left. Hypocrisy at its finest. The kitchen was swarmed with ants. Once I tried to eat one of the candies they leave on the table and found 14 ants stuck to it. It was disgusting, and made me worry I’d eaten candy with ants on it before. They welcomed short-term tenants like kings while treating those of us paying monthly rent terribly.

A comfortable, welcoming place, and very clean. The host was kind, and they kept the house tidy and the air in the room fresh. It was convenient to stay here.

I only stayed at Annie’s House briefly, but it was a really nice experience. I usually don’t sleep well in other places, yet here I slept right through until 10am. Incredible. I’ll stay here next time.

This turned out to be a great choice for my few days in Taipei. It’s only a two-minute walk to the MRT, and the place was comfortable and clean. I had a great stay.
