Attic Hotel

The breakfast leaned toward local tastes, and the eggs, meat and toast were enough for a Western-style meal, with tea, coffee and juice. The food was often cold, though. Breakfast and reception staff were welcoming, but had limited English. The beds were comfortable, with a good bath and shower, a fridge and electrical outlets. There are plenty of buses and taxis, though the MRT stops aren’t very close unless you’re happy to walk. I’d stay again, especially for the value at a three-star hotel.

I liked the basement room with no windows, and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There was plenty to watch on the TV, breakfast was good, the WiFi worked well and the service was attentive. The fridge made a lot of noise, but you can turn it off. The dental kit, razor and hairbrush were better quality than what I’ve found at other hotels. It was also nice walking to the rose garden and watching planes. After reading a review saying the bathroom door might break, I was careful with it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but there were more than five mosquitoes in my room. I could only change the air-conditioning fan speed, not adjust the temperature. There was no curtain around the bathtub, so using the handheld shower could leave the bathroom floor a little flooded.

Update for 2023: I came back after the Covid pandemic and found the hallways and rooms nicely renovated, with new furniture and flooring. The staff were as wonderful as ever, especially the breakfast worker who always makes me hot eggs. I also love walking a few blocks down airport alley to watch planes land overhead. This is a lovely, quaint older hotel. The basement breakfast buffet was fresh and offered a good variety, though I’d have liked some fruit. There’s a big street market two blocks away, so I brought passion fruit and bananas back to eat with my rice porridge. The hotel is close to Songshan Airport, and the MRT is a quick 15-minute walk away. There’s also a large nearby park where I could take a break from work.
