Courtyard by Marriott Taipei Downtown

I called about arranging a very late checkout and felt the duty manager wasn’t willing to work with me. The only workable option they offered was paying for another night. I was also frustrated when I asked whether the general manager could speak with me at some point in the three days before my arrival and was told they weren’t available. Based on the hotel’s reviews, I expected better service. Another nearby property from a different major brand put someone with authority on the phone and agreed to a reasonable late checkout fee. The room was modern and really nice, and check-in was friendly and smooth. I stayed here on a family trip to Taiwan, and parking was free with our rental car. The hotel restaurants were great, though I wish they’d cooked my burger medium when I ordered it that way. Courtyards I’ve stayed in outside the US seem much better than the ones there. It’s a great hotel with excellent service. Until next time in Taiwan.

The gym is nice and has a great city view, though it isn’t open around the clock. The beds were comfortable and the rooms clean, but small by Asian standards. There were some odd design choices: no outlet for the boiler, the toilet tap was fitted sideways, there’s no tub, and there isn’t a desk for working. Breakfast options were limited. It’s also not close to the city center, and getting to Taipei station takes at least a 15-minute car ride.

The staff were friendly and professional, and the breakfast was really good, with plenty of choice for vegetarians too. The rooms were great and very comfortable. I also appreciate the hotel’s policy of not supplying things like combs and cotton buds.
