Dahshin Hotel

The coffee was good, and the location was okay, with restaurants and a convenience store nearby. Rooms are small but all right. Some front desk staff didn’t speak English, though they were accommodating. Housekeeping was especially disappointing. We asked for the room to be cleaned, but they barely did it: the bed wasn’t made, the shower gel wasn’t refilled, and we didn’t get fresh tissues. Food wasn’t great either. They only order from MOS Burger, the choices are limited, and they wouldn’t arrange a very early breakfast when we asked. The pantry mostly has junk food like instant noodles and candy.

The shower never got hot, even after I let it run for 5-10 minutes. The rooms were grubby and had mould. I only had 40 minutes to shower and check out, so there wasn’t time to ask staff to fix it. Apart from those problems, I would have rated the stay 2.5 stars. At check-in, they pressured me to promise a top Google review in exchange for a free room “upgrade,” and kept pushing after I said I couldn’t promise. They said they had already arranged the upgrade. I suspect many recent five-star ratings came from guests who were asked to leave one before even seeing their rooms. The hotel’s boss should stop having employees do this. It makes the review system hard to trust. If they want good reviews, they should give guests a good experience.

December 31, 2023. We booked another, better hotel with a good NYE deal after this one offered us a refund if we wanted to cancel. A couple of hours later, our room was still being listed online for the crazy price of 6.900 NTD. What a fraud, what else? The trouble started as soon as we entered: the room smelled bad, felt humid, and was dirty. I found long hairs on the restroom floor and walls. At reception, they said there were no other rooms. Five minutes later, they offered us one, but it was just as bad, with hair all over the restroom again. Nobody apologized for the inconvenience.

On my recent Taipei vacation, I had a great experience with the staff at Dahshin Hotel. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and they served breakfast every morning. Thank you!
